Just wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that there are some very interesting and recent motor additions to the NAR contest certified list that deserve a very close look IMO.
These include the Apogee D10, E6, and F10 which are all s/u full composite motors in their respective impulse class. Congrats to Tim V.M. for finally raising the bar!
Also the AT E11-3 has been contest certified which fits the 24mm 40N-s AT case. A bit more spunk than the veritable E6 and E7 plugged R/C motors, but in a standard case and widely available!
😀
As long as they are within the impulse range and are NAR certified, they're good to go!
Bruce,
For sure, but for those in the NCR membership unaccustomed to competition flying, there are two classes of nar motor certification, safety, and competition. The latter is a more difficult standard, and so forever we have had great looking safety certified motors that could not be used in NAR sanctioned competition events.

Well, finally a question I can't answer. I always assumed ANY motor certified by NAR was also certified for competition. John, the worst that could happen would be that flight would be held (impounded) until NAR (Russ, our Western Regional Contest Director) decided whether it was acceptable or not. I feel relatively confident that NCR will let anything NAR certified and within the impulse range to fly. If I were you, I'd fly in the impulse range with any NAR certified motor and wait, IF there is even a question. When anyone checks in, they have to show the motor--if not at that point, definitely after the flight, and it's all written down in the paperwork. Don't worry about it. Let's just have a blast! And, remember to put your NAR # on your bird. And, WHERE is the list of NAR competition motors located? New to me, my friend. Don't confuse this with FAI standards. Dumbfounded at this end.
Bruce,
The list can be found here: http://www.nar.org/SandT/pdf/CombinedList.pdf
Or by going to www.nar.org/ and scrolling down to motors.
You will see that the list has not yet been updated and the motors I mentioned are designated as in process. I emailed John Lyngdal (secretary of S and T) who informed me that they are in fact approved as of mid april and a bulletin to this effect can be found on ROL, TRF etc. Even Tim V. M. who owns Apogee was unaware of the motor's status, so I wanted to spread the good news.

This is the only list I've ever known about. NOW I know what you're saying. They just haven't been put on the list yet. Of course, they're legal.
