A few more launches in the year, and the Alphabet Bribe contest is still open to newcomers. We've got for flyers with successful flights. Bear Friedrichs is in the lead, but is currently stuck at the 4th E motor flight after two consecutive DQs. Chad Moore is a good bit behind on C motors, with Brad Morse and John Howe bringing up the rear.
So grab your black powder motors and give it a go. Remember, if you DQ, you can hold pat or you can "bribe" the contest manager to continue onward.

How did the launch go? I never get out much working weekends.
By the way. I will be available to tow for Oktoberfest. Thursday afternoon
if someone is staying the night. Friday morning if not. That is if the trailer
will be at the normal place. I will be able to launch Friday but work
Sat and Sun.
Thanks Mike but the trailer won't be needed. September launch was good but proved the prairie is too dry - the risk too great - for us to host Oktoberfest this year. I'm really surprized we got the go for September. OCTOBER will be NO GO For Ofest. Next launch will be November at the Atlas site, weather and dryness pending.
ohhhhhh crap
No, No wait! It is supposed to rain this week! The weather patterns are changing. It might be moist on the prairie. (Of course, I do not know what I am talking about, I am working weekends myself and will not be at a launch for the rest of the year.) Darn.
The higher grass (what there is of it) is bone-dry, and the Buffalo Grass is like walking on toast. I don't think any amount of rain will green it back up at this point.
For those doing the rain dance - you can stop now. I've had over 4" here in Fort Collins. Just last night in Aurora my parents got 4"+ with over 12" since Monday. Next year please do the dance so that it encourages spread out rainfall instead of all at once 🙂

Looking at the maps and looking at the data from ground stations, it would appear that both launch sites have received more than 2" of rain this week. too bad it is too late.
I have a friend who does oil work out on the Pawnee and he said their rig by Grover has seen over 4" of rain this week.

I will not be at any launches for the rest of the year. (gun shows every weekend where I sell my products), I would offer that the formerly brown spots in my front yard are now bright green. I would expect the prairie to be similar. Too bad Oktoberfest has been officially cancelled. I would opine that the decision was premature, but I do not want to second guess Joe in any way. I have known and watched him long enough to know that he made the best decision that he could with the information he had.
Rumor has it that the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a long, cold, wet winter. The almanac is right about the weather a lot more than I am, so I will presume it is true, and watch and see. That said, maybe next year will be better than this year, which is already batter than last year.
Anybody capable of flying, good luck, and safe landings. BEAR
With global warming, wait, climate change, wait, some trendy name to motivate the masses and redistribute wealth the past 4-5 years the term 'Fly early and fly often' has been true. Best to fly at the beginning of the season because we don't get enough precipitation over the summer to keep everything green enough to fly.

Don't you mean global cooling? The polar arctic ice pack is reported in recent days to have exploded in size. Can global warming cause this? 😉
Of topic, but the arctic minimum ice pack is up this year as compared to last year, but still well below the average areal coverage.
