Well I'm not sure there is going to be an Upscale Contest. I haven't heard about any progress being made and its only a month until Oktoberfest. Its too bad. I think it would be a very nice contest and it seems to have a lot of people that would like to enter it. But what it needs is someone to run it and the Contest Director, Warren can't or won't run this contest.
I don't know the process to make it an official NCR contest. I thought that would be up to the Contest Director. I presented this idea and even the proposed rules to Warren but as far as I can tell no action has been taken. If anyone would like to run the contest and knows how to make it an official NCR contest please step forward or I guess this contest will die before it begins.
Here are the proposed rules and scoring sheet:

Doug,
I'd be interested in playing, though I don't have time to act as contest director.
Actually, my plan for entry was to show my kids pictures of the different Estes and Centuri rockets and left them pick what they wanted to build. Thus turning it into a family project.
Well, silly me - I thought the proposed contest was still in the discussion/planning stage and was intended for the 2009 Oktoberskies celebratory launch with a formal presentation and acceptance of the rules at the annual meeting in January. This forum is a great tool for information dissemination but not enough club members pay attention to it to be the sole source of information. Of course, not everyone comes to the meeting(s) either. Hey, we're all volunteers, trying to keep motivated and the interests of all in mind.
I thought the proposed contest was still in the discussion/planning stage and was intended for the 2009 Oktoberskies
It was suppose to be finalized by the end of August so that it can be distributed to everyone at this years Oktoberfest. That would give everyone enough time to plan and build their rocket. If it requires
a formal presentation and acceptance of the rules at the annual meeting in January
the contest had better be postponed until 2010. I didn't realize a formal presentation, ratification by 2/3 of the body present, etc. would be required...

Does there have to be a formal presentation, ratification to be a NCR contest.
I say just run with the rules you posted up top and "LETS GO"
😉
Anounce it at Octoberfest and it gives everbody a year.
Scott I guess that isn't allowed. Besides I'm the first to admit that the proposed rules are not complete. It doesn't address teams. I assumed this was an individual competition and not for teams. I don't want to start another debate here but the rules should address the team issue. As Joe pointed out not everyone reads the forums.
Doug
I'm sorry folks, but as far as this Contest Director is concerned this contest is a go and I'm happy to run it. The executive committee still needs to meet to discuss the rules in detail and that just hasn't happened yet. We still plan to announce at Oktoberfest with the contest running until Oktoberfest '09.
Doug, don't assume because you didn't hear anything that nothing has been happening or that nothing will happen - I've been tied up with some personal things like moving to a new house. As I said before I totally support this contest and it will get the same level of support that any other NCR contest gets - actually more since I'd like to see this be a regional contest with magazine exposure in Extreme Rocketry.
The issues that need to be decided on by the executive committee will be the entry fee and the issues surround individual entries versus team entries. These need to be debated by the committee. When such a meeting is scheduled, we'll be happy to include you via telephone if you wish.
Warren

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. And I try not to assume, I know what that stands for. So what have you done with the contest?
Doug
I'm sorry - I owe you and everyone an apology as I haven't be exactly communicative. I can definitively tell you that moving sucks - especially when you can't take off any time from work to get it done. I just finally got my office put back together this past weekend and can now sit at a real computer with all my files on it rather than my little-used laptop. I promise some updates within the week and I'll work to make the executive committee meeting happen soonest.
Doug, can you email me directly the Word file with the contest rules? After the executive committee meeting, I'd like to make the edits (if any) and send them back to you for your approval. Once we're all agreed, we'll post them in PDF form.
Warren

So is the upscale contest going to happen still? Wasnt at Oct fest so wasnt sure if it was discussed or not.
So is the upscale contest going to happen still?
I'll let Warren answer that question. I'm not sure. It was barely mentioned at OF so no real discussion. I have my rocket picked out but as far as the contest, Warren needs to address that for NCR.
Doug
Warren, what's the scoop? Is the contest on or is it still in limbo? Is the thinking to present to the club in January and postpone the contest until MHM 2010 or later? Inquiring minds want to know. Well, at least I'm ready to start purchasing materials if it's on...
Doug
Yes the contest is a go - I've got to get hold of Brent McNeely and discuss with him before I officially announce and unfortunately he wasn't at O'fest. Working on it. Probably will end up being announced at January meeting although I would like it to take place at Oktoberfest rather than Mayhem. Perhaps giving folks 18 months+ will result in more entries. Thoughts?
