I'm planning a project were I'm looking to airstart 2-38mm motors. Any recommendations? I need something that will work well, but not break the bank.

I built the lower timer bay in mine to hold either the Missileworks PET2 timer (ultra-reliable I've heard, and two separate timers in one) or two of the PerfectFlite Minitimers (Ultra-high current capable, tiny, cheap, and reliable).
Since I just got my L1, I'm not loading the (6) airstart motors until I've got a few DD flights under my belt.

I like the PET2 but as an alternative you may wish to consider Xavien

If I want to use a PerfectFlite Minitimer or Xavien timer, can I use a single timer for two motors or do I need two timers?

Ron,
If you're using ematches (or especially Cessaronis), one timer will easily light them. The PF timer can handle more amps than you can supply with a hefty battery pack. I plan on lighting 6 24mm with one. Probably going to use a Lithium pack to keep weight reasonable, but I need about 12 amps or so...
Ken
Ron, you will be fine wiring two e-matches into the same output on the timer.

Ron, will be out with our new Rocket Monitor Computer system RMCS. It is a full blown flight computer with 4 pyro channels that you can configure anyway you want including a timer. I will be demoing the boards at Oktoberfest if you would like to try one out. Pictures of the prototype can be seen here:
http://www.mbrocketry.com/projects/elec/flight_comp/flightcomp.html. I will be out with production boards for people to try out. Board size is 3.8125 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. I also have ematches that we can dip that fire with this unit.
