Looking for thoughts on the bigredbee brb900 vs. a dog collar for tracking. Just putting the idea out there as to if the brb900 would be worth the investment or just going with the dog collar.
I got the DC-30 coming because of four things.
1. I was going to get a ROMEO, when I got the money. I got the money
and went looking. They are around but it looks like the company went
out of business.
2. I looked at the BEE but it was a little much. And had never heard
of it.
3. I knew I could get the collar this year and the Asto next year.
many people offerd the Astro to Me. Suggesting to just get the
collar.
4. The DC-20 and DC-30 has been well tested by NCR people
and has passed with flying colors.
Just My Two Barks Worth
The main reason to get the beeline GPS is that it's smaller, easily fitting into a 38mm coupler. You would also need a HAM license to operate it. The Telemetrum combines the GPS tracker with a basic recording altimeter, and it's smaller still.
Adrian, this one does not require a HAM to operate. It runs in the 900Mhz range. It combines the trimble gps along with the digi module. On the ground it has another digi module. It is not the digi Xtend so the range is about 6 miles LOS. It does have the ability to record for later download to google earth.
My mistake; I thought the question was about the Beeline GPS. Agreed about the version with the 900 MHz module.
Kinda hard to figure out if it is worth it or not. They only started selling them around November. Looking at them it is $300 for the base model and $420 for the one with the recording and handheld so you don't need a laptop at the launch. I am almost leaning toward the dc 40 for 150 or so more.
Is the dc40 much smaller or more easily integrated into a rocket? I haven't seen one yet. You'd probably be able to get dc30's much cheaper, and for larger rockets, the dc20 is in the $75-90 range on ebay.

It looks like the dc40 is a little larger than the dc30. The dc40 is 3.25" x 1.75" x 1.5" while the brb900 is 1.25" x 2.85"
It appears from the bad pictures I've seen that the antenna configuration on the DC 30 and 40 is much better than the DC 20. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to see a clear one. If anyone has one they could post a picture of that would be awesome.
