Does anyone have a tracking device that I could borrow for my SSSS entry on either Saturday or Sunday of MHM? If so, I was wondering how big the component that goes inside the rocket is and how it is mounted.
Also, if I wanted to look into buying a tracking device of my own, any recommendations on which ones are good and which ones should be avoided, if any? Thanks.
There are many companies out there but here are just a few. I have the Rocket Hunter http://rockethunter.com/ receiver and transmitter. I like them a lot but one disadvantange is the size of the transmitter. It's not huge but for the SSSS contest I wanted something a little smaller.
So I got a transmitter from http://www.radiotracking.com/ particular the XLF model. It's smaller and I like the construction better. They are a little more expensive than the Rocket Hunter.
Another source is Walston Retreival http://www.walstonretrieval.com/main.htm I bought from them years ago and at the time they were very slow to deliver. I'm sure they are better by now.
Basically I cannot recommend any system over any other. They are all typically about the same. There is a little difference in price and even less difference in performance.
