Hey its kyle, Im now working on a filament wound 54mm rocket. And i dont know the best way to cut it. We have a skill saw and a circular saw. also we have a old one and a dremal. what the best??????
I use one of 2 tools
1) jigsaw with an abrasive carbide blade
2) dremel with a diamond cutoff wheel (cuts through glass/carbon/kevlar tubes like butter)
Kyle,
Neither of these two saw choices are the best for what you are trying to do.
That being said, if this is what you have and what to move forward then l would suggest you make a simple jig and turn the 54mm tube rather than trying to cut it freeform.
Check out some of the body tube cutting jigs on info-central.org or jcrocket.com
You might be able to take a couple of two-by-fours, a scrap block of wood and a clamp to make a quick jig for your scroll saw. You can then rotate the tube rather than moving the saw.

I use an abrasive cutoff wheel on my chop saw. You and your dad are welcome to come down tomorrow and chop whatever you wish. It works well up to 4"... above that we have to get fancy.
