I am looking for somebody willing to look at my Hybrid project and could pass on some tips for a successful flight. I am planning for MHM maiden voyage.
what type of hybrid are you looking at using? and what size?
James- I have 54mm Contrail Motors. This rocket can use either the 28inch or 36inch casing and a J reload. I have the NOX tank and solenoids. I planned on a 24volt igniter with two 50 grain pyorodex pellets.
NCR has ground support for pretty much every commercial hybrid. Currently I'm the equipment geek in charge of the GSE. My personal experience is all nearly 100% with Hypertek, but have also assisted and managed GSE for RATT and Skyripper types.

the contrail is very similar to SR and RATT, the floating valve. but as he said their system is a 24v system.
I'd use a regular e-match to light the motor. If you look you'll see the supplied igniter is just a resistor that needs 24v to heat up and get the motor going. Swap that out for an e-match and then you won't need 24v and you can use it on 12v.

I concur with Edward - one of the acknowledge hybrid experts of the club. Any hybrid except the Hypertek should be ignitable by a plain ematch - at least any that use an AP slug or pyrodex pellet. The Hyperteks use a 20,000V spark coil to create a spark in a 100% oxygen environment, directly igniting the plastic of the fuel grain and there is no alternative to it. The Skyripper motors can all use an ematch or similar igniter in place of the custom 24V system.
