LOST: On Saturday of Octoberfest Andre (my exchange student) lost his Estes Alpha type rocket. It is painted white with hand lettering of RUSSELL I on the side. I figured it was around 100yards west of the porta potties north west of the launch pads. We searched the area pretty hard Saturday, Sunday and again on 10/13. This inspired us to fly the area to find Bdale's machine this morning also to no avail.
FOUND: On 10/13 we did find the remains of a red and white chute of around 42 inch diameter about 1/2 mile west on the fence line to the north of the launch area. The chute is pretty badly damaged with probably about a panel missing. The fabric doesn't look aged like it has been in the sun for very long. The cord lines are missing also. From the looks, it must have deployed at a super high speed to have its "guts" tore out like this. If you want it just let me know, but it really isn't worth much in the present condition. I was mostly hoping it would explain what happened for someone else.
I'm pretty sure that is the chute from John Bixler's Junior flight on Sunday. He had a flight anomaly at burnout and it shredded.
The booster was recovered about 50 yards north in the pad area sans a nosecone or chute. That sounds about right. The shroud lines were still attached to the rocket. I can get you his e-mail, but I'm confident that it is his chute.
