I flew Carbon Diem on a K700W on Saturday 6/7. Flew into the clouds at around 9k ft and disappeared. Searched extensively N, NE and E of the site for several miles to no avail. I'm convinced that due to the wind direction and speed at the time (to the NE, ENE at about 5mph) it should be within a cone between E and NE extending from the launch site out about 2 miles.
Reward if found.
Was that the drogueless one?
If you want to borrow that spotting scope I told you about, let me know.
Monday morning my flight instructor and I went up in search or Carbon Diem. We literally covered every square inch of the prairie within five miles of the launch site. We made several passes over the washes and draws to the NE of the site. Anything that even resembled a part of a rocket was looked over several times, I was able to see things smaller then a fence post no problem and I was even able to see the orange construction fencing to the East at five miles without squinting. Basically, if any rocket was out there, I would have seen it.
Carbon Deim either went ballistic and somehow managed to impact far enough away that no one heard it (not likely considering several people heard ejection charges go off) or it was picked up before 9:00am Monday morning. Again, after searching in the plane for just over an hour, I can say with certainty that it is not there.
This is the second time in a row I have had to turn a plane back towards home not having found what I was looking for. It is frustrating but I think that this has the potential to turn out like BIG-EZ. I have a feeling Carbon Deim will turn up down the road.
Best of luck to Ken finding Carbon Deim! It was a great boost!

What was that Charity?
Get the check ready!
Carbon Diem has been found! I went up to the area last Friday (6/13) and stapled some flyers to a few phone poles and fence posts E and NE of the launch site. I got a call last night from a rancher who found it while checking the water for his cattle. I'll get more details and post them when I pick it up next week.

YAHOOO !!!!!
Ken, you have a chance to be a good ambassador for the rest of us and we all know you will convey a positive, professional message to the rancher. This is a great chance to improve relations --
Glad you found your rocket, too!
