Reward if found!!!
On 10-07-07 I launch my BigEZ on an M-1840 Russell Red motor. It was a straight boost to about 17k or so. The winds took it East/North East, 035 heading from the launch site. We could see it under chute all the way down over the horizon. The transmitter was found on the same heading less then a mile from the launch site. I lost the signal with the rocket still at lest 5k or better under main chute. The zip tie broke maybe from the shock cord twisting can causing the zip tie to twist as well and then braking.
Art, Jordan and my self walked the heading out to the wash 1.8 miles, Jordan and Art walked out past the wash almost 3 miles from the launch site and was not able to find anything. We looked for 5 hours Sunday and then again on Tuesday for another 5 hours and found nothing on it, this was to be its last flight.
I would not think it is more then 4-5 miles out but not sure of wind speed, the decent rate was ~15fps under main from maybe 10k.
The rocket is a rusty red primer color very worn. the rocket is all FW fiberglass 4.25 diameter ~8.5 ft long. The main chute is red, white, blue, gray and black with some mixing of the colors do to a bad rain storm the last time I was recovering it. It has an old Kosdon 6000 case (gold) in it. The altimeter was one of Jim's mini rrc's and it had JRUSSELL on the back of it.
If you find your self in that area please keep you eyes open for it. This was the rocket I used to get my L3 and has over 180k of vertical ft
If 35 degrees is truly the heading from the launch site, 4-5 miles would put the rocket south/south east of Squaw Rock on the Chalk Bluffs. Did you guys look up that way?
Ken.
Yah, when I flew we made some passes on the heading that were even with the bluffs and some passes on the heading that were past the bluffs.
Art
we went out to were the CR ends, right at 6 miles but there are several sections of the line that was not walked because it is private property. N/NE of the wash is all private property and it does not sound like they want us walking all over their land with out permission.
It seems that the BEE guys seemed to step on a few toes out there and we were not greeted very well when they found out we were looking for a rocket. Art and myself talked with one of the land owners and I think we smoothed it out as long as we ask to walk his property. He gave me 2 other land owners home numbers but they have not called me back.
Art and I have talked about trying to do something for some of the land owners but have not come up with anything and we also want to talk to Joe about it.
Art flow over that heading from the launch site to about 5 miles and then when back and forth over the wash aera with no luck.
well just to let you all know, it sounds like BigEZ was found and now is being held ransom by a land owner. He has contacted me so I think I will get it back but not sure how much he is wanting or when he will let me come to meet up with him to talk face to face and agree on what president he likes the best. Will keep you posted
James, before you hand over any money, make sure it's all there. Congratulations!
well, I met up with the rancher today, I picked up BigeEZ and gave him a reward that he will donate it to the school in the area that was doing some kind of fund raiser. It looks like I could fly it tomorrow if I had a motor and a chute, well new batteries too.

Sounds like a good trade, as long as you wernt the "fund"
