a New Vendor opening soon with Loki Research in there corner would love to hear the ideas and things from the local research community here in Colorado of the things they would like to see, have available to buy or any ideas concerning research products.
Would you be interested in cost effective stuff only? more higher end exotic materials? Motor design or Propellant making classes? Would love to hear your thoughts.
16+ views and yet no comments? I know all you research-ers have wants and needs and desires..
Classes, help with LEUP w/storage, and a FULL line of materials. One starts out low cost, then graduates to more exotic materials. At this point, I know a lot about the THEORETICAL science of rocket engines, but next to nothing on how high power research motors and reloads are made, other than what I've been able to learn online.
Personally I welcome the idea whole heartedly.
I'd like to see easy access to Loki reloads and whatever other motors you might care to carry plus on the research side I'd like to see:
- chemicals, including bulk AP and AN, powdered metals, binders and curing agents.
- one or more lines of cases, if not even custom cases
- liners and casting tubes
- graphite or better yet custom finished nozzles.
- Mandrels or mandrel materials
- release agents for the mandrels
- igniters or thermite chemicals
Just a wish list. I would already be making thermite igniters but I can't find easy vendors and I hate ebay... I'd also prefer to give my money to someone local, someone I know, someone who will teach me about the endless stuff I don't know. I'm not yet a research guy, but I certainly think about it.

Amen! By vote and launch days, NCR has embraced TRA research. Now let's get it on!

Yep, they do, Ken, but you need a LEUP to buy anything from them.

Other things to note. Pban is god awful to use. It smells terrible and takes a week of Sundays to cure. It also is recommended to use a bit of heat to cure it.
The better solution that 99.9 % of all research guys out there use is HTPB. R45 HTLO. Curse quite easily. Better shelf life. Cheaper, Doesnt stink horribly and can be cured over night with NO heat applied.
Besides Ken Bruce is right, You would have to have a LEUP to purchase anything from them. AND they now have to charge Hazmat shipping on everything and everything must have its own Box. So for a order like that expect to pay close to 200.00 in shipping cost alone.
Besides Would you rather do business with a local from your club that can offer support right here in our community.. It all has value at least in my opinion.
Also besides the PBAN stuff being terrible there are other products on that list that are just as bad. Much better things available and all around when doing HTPB based polymers.
Again one of the things that we would do or can do is hold a actual propellant Class and mix on the spot. You would get a hardware set (like a 38mm or 54mm motor, Documentation, experience with hands on mixing and a motor to show for it when done to test. Other things would be software and other potential stuff)
Most of the chems needed to be bought would be able to be attained thru your local dealer of the products. Including Hardware, Nozzles, Casting and liner paper sets, Orings, Liquid chems and powdered chems. And lots lots more.
Just an FYI for those that dont know from my statment above reguarding firefox.
This year they lost a court ruling in a Case with the CPSC.. Now just about EVERYTHING they sell requires a LEUP, as well as new shipping regulations were placed upon them forcing them to individually box all products/componets and label as well as ALL will require a certain level of Hazardous Mat shipping. Here about 3 months ago I personnally ordered some product from them and the shipping alone was almost as much as the $200 order I placed. Funny things about this is that the CPSC really shouldnt be allowed to place (nor a judge in a court) regulations on stuff like what Fire fox sells as Oxidizers, metal fuels, ect as the ATFE doesnt even have regualtions on them and have been quoted as saying none are needed. The whole issue with the CPSC stems about a rising increase with issues of people making Boomers (M80's, Cherry Bombs, Ect) and flash powders and it just so happens to effect us rocketry folk as well. Gary from Firefox has urged all Pyro folk to please support the rocketry community as it is/was a large part of his bussiness.
Sorry mate, make almost all my own stuff.
Easy access to chemicals would be nice as long as the price is right. Bulk prices would be good for group buys.
LEUP in process as we speak.
Also liner and casting tubes would be nice.
Also liner and casting tubes would be nice.
Working on that as well with keeping Local supply for 38mm up.
So Conway what is the status of you new endeavor?
Also you going to be for the research launch on April 6th? Flying anything?
