For those of you who plan on becoming LEUP holders and plan to follow the state laws as well A new Senate Bill 051-08 was just recently passed allowing the director of Division of Oil and Public Safety to establish application fees for explosive permits by rule.
9-7-107-Fees
The short rule is currently it is $75 for type I, $75 for a type II and $75 for a type III permit for three years. They want to raise the price of the type II permit from $75 for three years to $1200 for three years. Currently in Colorado even if you just store rocket motors you have to have all three type permits.
So if you want a say in this, the Division of Oil and Public Safety is holding a public hearing on Wednesday, July 11th at 9:00AM at the office location 633 17th street, suite 500, Denver 80202-3660. You may comment in writing or in person at the hearing.
This would be your time to be heard on SB 051-08 and maybe reduce or eliminate the rocket motor portion of the law. Otherwise to be fully legal with a federal LEUP you currently need all the states permits. I plan on writing a letter stating for individuals storing rocket motors that a special permit fee be added ($25 for three years for individual) and approved since we are not storing high explosives and this is just a hobby not a business or waived altogether. I hope everyone gets involved here and either writes a letter or shows up in person to voice their opinion.
I am in Wyoming.
Can I participate?
Can You make copies of Your letter?
So those of Us who are less literate, have something that makes
an impact to sign and send in.
Hi Mike I am not sure you can participate, but heck if you showed up to the meeting how would they know where you lived.
As far as the letter yes I could make copies to help but I am sure it would be better to write it in your own words.
I have to do some traveling starting next Friday, that is when I am going to write mine. I will post here when it is complete or close to being completed.
Good, Mike. That'll be a nice template for the rest of us.
wish we knew about it before it went to the Senate. I think it would be a good idea for as many of us as possible write letters and also try to attend the hearing. We really should act quickly as to not let this opportunity pass by and then we are stuck trying to work out other ways around it like a group LEUP and state permits.
Hobbies seem to get nailed by new laws directed at businesses. Most people would have no idea this would even effect us....
I'll need a go by letter as well, I write letters all the time to politicians, but being creative is not my cup of tea.
Thanks Mike.
I live in Adams count... WHO gets my letter?
Bruce it does not matter what county since this is a state thing. You letter goes to:
Colorado Department of Labor & Employment
Division of Oil & Public Safety
633 17th Street, Ste. 7D
Denver, CO 80202
For more info about state permits here is their website:

I don't understand why we have to get type I,II & III permits for motor usage & storage? For me, wouldn't it just be type I & III?
I agree it should be waived or reduced for home brewers & recreation users. Almost sounds like druggies....
I am not sure why either, but they are all tied together. In order to get a type III you need to have a type II and in order to have a type II you need to have a type I bla bla bla.
Typical bureaucratic BS, I dealt with it all the time doing land use and gun laws...
Same Shit, Same Day!
Oh just so you all know I am watching PPG videos and not really working. Kinda like when I used to do that with rocket videos.
I'm waiting on hold for an eye exam, bouncing between this, the state page emails from Jeremiah and a well log on my desk. Multi tasking to the max....
This almost sounds like Kansas. Only there, they would loose your app, take your money, charge you a fine for not having an app.
Hehehehehehe ROTFLMAO!!!! 😆
Don't ever get a ticket for an accident out there either.
Both the K-DOT AND DMV can take your license or fine you. We had a driver get a ticket for an accident from the DMV and then the DOT took his license - personal vehicle too..... Now, if you get a speeding ticket and pay it, you better call and confirm that they have it booked - even if the check clears. I had a warrant for my arrest at one time because of that. Watch it, I'm a dangerous person bwahahahaha
