I just received this from the Northern Colorado Business Report and pass it on. I am presuming, from the way I read this, to include us and our hobby, unless we can get a clarification from the NFS and the Weld County authorities. Better start the rain dances, the prayers for monsoon season to begin, and the Lord to bring rain to the whole state!
Governor bans private use of fireworks
June 14, 2012
Gov. John Hickenlooper signed an order Thursday banning the private use of fireworks statewide, citing a high fire danger related to dry conditions.
At least 44 of the state's 64 counties are listed as having "high," "very high" or "extreme" wildfire danger, according to the governor's office. More than 340 wildfires have been reported statewide this year.
"This ban is a necessary step to help protect people, property and the beautiful state we live in," Hickenlooper said in a statement issued by his office.
Commercial, professional and municipal fireworks displays are allowed as long as a county sheriff approves in writing.
The executive order also bans outdoor fires such as campfires and charcoal grill fires.
The ban does not apply to fires in constructed, permanent fire pits or fire grates within developed camp and picnic grounds; liquid- or gas-fueled stoves; indoor fireplaces; charcoal grills at private residences or controlled burns.
County officials may adopt more restrictive bans, the governor's office said.
If you haven't already been dancing and/or praying and/or postulating and/or considering a sacrifical offerring - you're wrong!
Thanks for passing on the news Bear - I've been monitoring carefully. I might not always agree with the gubmint or our elected officials but in this case - sort of a no-brainer.
Wondering aloud - how soon till rock ski season?
My last dance brought on a hail storm that did about $6K in damage to my car, so I'm a bit hesitant. I assume barring more significant rain we probably don't need to rush any new rocket paint jobs?
Could you park your car in the garage and do the dance? We could really use it up here in Larimer County, especially on the north end!
Open question for with more historical knowledge of these things - in light of the current conditions here in Colorado, what are this summer's alternatives for burning some propellant? I figure we may be able to count on O'Fest, but I spent a lot of time last winter building 3 new L1 birds,,,, thinking I'd get some field experience under my belt this summer and before attempting an L2 build next winter.
I assume the SCORE Chili Blaster and Tripoli-Colorado's Hartsel launches are all at risk of cancellation... and I'm not ready for the Black Rock Desert (I burn easily and it's a long drive). Is there anything within a day's drive that might be out of the danger zone? I was looking at Kloudbuster's AirFest as a possibility over Labor Day... any suggestions, comments? Don't want to go to something where every rocket packs a monster load - feelings of inadequacy and all....
The inside info I have says the Chili Blaster event happening still looks like a possibily. The current Fire Ban and relevant situations do not look good for Colorado events although the clout of ULA and Ball Aerospace might help keep Chili Blaster on schedule. Lots of issues at play but the Beulah Fire Department still plans on being on site unless they are needed elsewhere. We've gone thru Fire Bans before, just nothing this severe this early on in the year.
Otherwise, nearest launch opportunities include Hellfire on the Salt Flats near Wendover - about ten hours away - about the same distance as to Airfest in Kansas over Labor Day weekend. UROC and Kloudbusters put on great events.
Weather prognosticators expect the La Nina conditions in the south Pacific to eventually change to an El Nino condition which will help drive the jet stream away and open the bubble of heat positioned over the states while bringing needed moisture and cooler temps. And puffy little pretty clouds. We're just going to have to wait it out.
Radar says that the North site got over an inch of rain today.
I was in the area this morning - about 8am. We had some good rain there last night. Was damp at 8am. By the time we left at 11am the roads were dry and you could hardly tell it rained at all out there. Water seems to disappear out there. We need a good solid week of rain plus some animals to mow it down.

Are we going to be on for August launch? The governor cancelled the fire ban this afternoon, so it is safe to launch again. Too bad this did not happen on Thursday, the 5th, or even the 4th. I also just saw that both of the launch sites are under a flash flood warning until midnight tonight. Who would have thunk?
Even though the fire ban is lifted - it is still very very dry out there. Dead grass just doesn't green up.
