On Sunday I did a staging test with a 38mm booster and a 29mm sustainer. The separation went fine, but the sustainer lawn darted. The booster was recovered but the sustainer was eaten by the prairie. The people who saw it come in said it looked like it impacted NE of the pads, a little way past the stream bed/pond. I looked for it with binoculars for a couple of hours, but no dice. It may be buried to nearly the fins. The fins are plain carbon fiber. The sustainer is the same rocket I flew to 14,818 on an H160 on Saturday.
Found!
This rocket was found just on the near side of the closest gully. Sorry I forgot the name of the rocketeer who found it for me, but the parts that were still buried were nicely marked so that I could go and dig them up. Thanks!
Sweet, I didn't think it landed this side of the gully.
Adrian, I found it, and tried to bring it back. One I figured out that was not possible, I tried to mark it well for you. It was a pretty little black carbon fiber flower sticking up on the prairie.
Thanks, Scott. With the club's shovel I got all of it out. The chute appears to be salvageable
