I might chug along with an I216 shot of my own… though mine isn’t as glamorous (exposed rivet, conical cone, phenolic, thicker fins, etc.).Maybe we do Dr. J the honor of breaking the TRA record twice in one day? I’ll… Read more»

I’m planning to come on Saturday, with my tower.Depending on the weather and how much I can get done, I may fly a carbon 38mm bird with the new CTI I216 motor, and a Raven altimeter in a new Featherweight… Read more»

I’d check it in RASAero and see how that compares to what you got with OpenRocket.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that was with the smoothest possible settings.

I have found that the import works well, but the estimated drag is really, really high compared to both RASAero and actual flights. IIRC, RASAero predicted my J flight going over 22k, which it did, but Open Rocket was predicting… Read more»

The standard answer would be NO, but then it might depend on the altimeter. One of the electronic geeks could answer this better than I can but NO. The Q2G2 ignitors should be safe to be used for deployment charges… Read more»

The all-fire current for the Q2G2s is about 0.2 Amps. They can be ordered directly from the Quest website. Q2G2s work pretty well for igniting composite motors too, if you dip them in pyrogen like Magnalite. I’m planning to use… Read more»

If you’re using altimeter apogee deployment, you don’t have to drill anything out; just leave the delay/smoke in place and just skip the step where you add the BP. If you want to eliminate the possible failure mode of a… Read more»

G10 is actually quite a good themal insulator. Good enough that real spacecraft use g10 to make standoffs to attach propulsion fuel lines to cold structures. In the fiber direction, carbon is more thermally conductive than aluminum. Spacecraft use carbon… Read more»

This weekend I’m trying to finish up my Half-Fast rocket. It’s a testbed for airstarts and unusual recovery systems. It’s a BT80-based rocket with a central 24mm and 4 18mm motors. It also has a nosecone mounted, 24mm motor tube… Read more»
