I especially like pistons in low-power birds. They take a lot less room than the amount of dog barf you need for the same amount of chute protection.

If my 38mm sustainer or 2nd stage come back from XPRS, I’ll go for the SSSS, and/or I and J altitude records. If just my 1st stage comes back, I’ll probably go for an I record (but not a SSSS,… Read more»

I have been told that a manufacturer-approved tapered aft closure/nozzle is available for 38mm reloads on request; they start with a standard closure/nozzle and turn it down. Here’s the thread for the I350, it’s kinda new, but it seems like a… Read more»

You mean the AT350? It’s been out for awhile. The new full I from CTI (I216) should beat it, though, if you don’t mind the lack of a forward closure.Speaking of which, I want two of those (I216) with a… Read more»

Adrian replied to the topic "Stuck tube on a mandrel… Advice???" – 5 years, 10 months ago
You can use some motor casings, a threaded rod from Home Depot, and an airframe to press-fit the mandrel out, similar to Edward’s method, below. For details and pictures, see page 2 of my 38mm carbon thread//www.rocketryplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2808&page=2But your biggest challenge… Read more»

I’ll try to be there for Saturday, to do a flight test of the 3-stage 38mm bird I’m getting ready for XPRS. I’ll probably fly all 3 stages but only ignite 2 smaller motors to stay under the waiver. It… Read more»

It was a very nice day at the North site. There was a cert or two, and some notable flights.Sean Serell flew a G-to-G on a nice boost that claimed a Tripoli 2 stage record of 9,200′. IIRC Sean said… Read more»

Adrian replied to the topic "Any Towers Availabe August 1st" – 5 years, 10 months ago
I double-checked my tower and indeed the max fin circle diameter is just over 10″. I could actually extend that a half inch or a bit more with some judicious belt-sanding, but not to 11.9″.

Hmm, I just check my RockSim file and I have a Span Diameter of 11.9 inches. It sounds like Adrian’s tower won’t work for me.Ed, Can I assist in hauling something for the large 3″ tower? What dimensions of LxWxH… Read more»

Cool. It sounds like brazing is a valuable skill to have. How much does the fincan weigh? What’s the 1/16″ tube for?

Good question. I’m glad you asked. The quickie analysis I gave was for the flat part of the fin, where the two face sheets are held apart by 0.04″ of something, where that something could be G10 or CF or… Read more»
