If you’re a weather nerd like me, you may find the “scientific forecaster discussion” interesting at the Weather Underground.http://www.wunderground.com/DisplayDisc.asp?DiscussionCode=BOU&StateCode=CO&SafeCityName=CarrApparently some of the models they use are predicting around 3-6″ total, and others are predicting more like 1-2 feet, based on……[Read more]

Adrian replied to the topic "Carbon Fiber and Kevlar fringes" – 5 years, 10 months ago
That would work with the carbon fiber, but don’t expect it to work with the Kevlar. Once you’ve got the kevlar fuzz as small as you can make it, you would need to do an epoxy coat or something to… Read more»

Adrian replied to the topic "Max altitude for visual recovery guidelines?" – 5 years, 10 months ago
If you’re looking for a range where you don’t have to worry much about it, I’d say probably around 1000′ for a small A rocket, 2000′ for a 38mm min diameter rocket. Above that, others could provide some estimates. Of… Read more»

Adrian replied to the topic "Ejection from an altimeter in forward position." – 5 years, 10 months ago
It works fine. That’s how I did the setup in my 24mm booster and Der Mad Rex. I ran the deployment wires along the shock cord, past the chute, to a piston. Then the charge pushes the piston and the… Read more»

Thanks, Chad. Usually I like long-burn motors too, but it was quite a thrill to see it leap off the pad like that.So are the oscillations in the 250G meter real thrust pulses, an artifact of the sampling method, or… Read more»

Of course, you could ignite your second stage motors with Parrots in those 18mm tubes, and get apogee deployment and some cool data as a bonus. Might be tough to pull together before this weekend, though. I’ll lend you one… Read more»

Looks like a beautiful machine, and it should be a blast. Any way to check the stability on it? There’s lots of fins, but lots of motor weight back there, too.

Way cool, Mike. I love it. Kind of like a launch-able tower. Was the motor retention your own scratch design, or was it part of a kit?
