Partly because I wanted to be able to do some small-motor testing of altitude birds near home, and partly because I had an idea and wanted to see if it would work, I built my own tower this weekend. It has… Read more»

Could the club get the tower in time for MHM?

We need to buy GLR’s. Thoughts on my suggestion re: the upper ring?Looking at the picture, the supports appear to be 1″ square steel tubes. If the base that they’re welded to is beefy enough, I bet a rocket would… Read more»

This looks like a great option to me, too. 7 feet, and it looks like it adjusts down to arbitrarily small diameters. Sweet.

If I remember correctly, the existing bicycle tower could probably be lengthened just by replacing the 6 pieces of conduit with longer ones. If we lengthened it to 5 or 6 feet could it still fit in the trailer? I’d… Read more»

At the meeting there was strong interest from a number of people in the room.Besides being too small for really large rockets, the bicycle wheel tower is also pretty short. I’d sure love to see a taller tower to reduce… Read more»

I’d especially break it if my chamber implodes. But it looks like you were doing just fine testing your altimeter in your own chamber.

Well, my vacuum pump really sucks after all. In a good way. It turned out that one of its fittings was loose, so once I fixed that, it really pulled it down hard. It inverted the lid of the rubbermaid… Read more»

Fun google tip: Type “25 inches of mercury in Pa” in Google search (or your Google toolbar) and it will tell you the answer. I use Google now for my calculator whenever I’m at a computer. BTW, 84.6 kPa corresponds… Read more»

Yeah, where did you get your pump?Santa brought me one for Christmas from Aircraft Spruce that I thought was going to suck out at least 80-90% of atmospheric pressure, but sadly it doesn’t suck that much…er… well, you get the… Read more»

Chris,How did your Cirrus mass compare with the optimal mass for that motor?

Adrian replied to the topic "Here's a link to data from Chris's flight" – 6 years, 7 months ago
His Cirrus Dart went about 11,950′. There was very little wind, he launched from a tower and it was plenty hot. Also note that he used an electronic timer for deployment; this rocket and motor combination would likely shred with… Read more»

Sorry Scott, somehow I missed this post earlier.I get the surface mount parts assembled at Advanced Assembly, thank goodness. If I had to do all the surface mount parts myself I’d have to charge way more than the altimeters are… Read more»

Thanks, Warren.I’ve also been thinking about a dual deploy altimeter similar to what you’re describing, but it’s going to have to wait until I get done with the Sparrow and Hummingbird.
