Adrian, by my calculation, 15 oz. was under optimal mass — but not by much. 15-18 oz. (in my sims) all came w/in 50′ or so of each other. The top of the curve is pretty flat. Even jumping up… Read more»

I would’ve bet my lunch regular phenolic would have shred. I’m quite impressed / surprised that it did not. Seems like years ago I read in PML’s FAQ that 38mm and 29mm would survive pretty much anything, but you should… Read more»

Chris, that was an extraordinary blast. I always thought my “I” record was the safest one I had, thanks for the wakeup call ;-)15 oz. is very light. When you say “stock finish” does that mean you did not glass… Read more»

IIRC Chris did just under 12K – he flew it with one of Adrian’s Parrots. He was flying the I600, I believe.I flew an I132 to 12,136′. I sure wish I had used that motor in an optimized bird 8O… Read more»

John, we don’t keep club records by rocket or by design… we keep them by impulse class. The club J record is a snitch over 17K. That was on a J570, and it was recovered intact.

I have never staged an HPR (that is the disclaimer 😉 but I would have to say that the majority of big, staged projects I have seen have had very significant intervals between burnout of the booster and ignition of… Read more»

I found a slide rule the other day – a relic of the past that I packed away in a box. It turned up when I moved to Iowa. I showed it to my kid, who thought I was joking.FWIW,… Read more»

Doesn’t anyone use slide rules anymore?
Absolutely. I took mine apart and I use it as a straightedge when cutting carbon fabric……………. 8)

Chris, there will be other launches. Final exams in general, and specifically calculus finals (for aspiring engineers) are exceedingly important. SO important that they are scheduled many months in advance. 8OAs you grow older, you will find life filled with… Read more»

One minor correction, Warren – I was told I *would* be failed if my dual deploy project deployed at apogee. In the end, it didn’t matter – altimeter fired on the way UP shredding everything.I have indeed seen L3 attempts… Read more»
