Let’s do the Math :D9000 ft / 30 ft/sec on a streamer is 300 seconds or 0.08333 hours3 miles / 0.08333 hours is 36 mph wind speed.I don’t remember the wind being that fast but it’s possible. Of course… Read more»

I’ve tried to stay out of this as I have an inherent conflict of interest. Since no one else has brought these items up, I’ll toss them into the mill. I have a question and a comment.First, my question -… Read more»

I just thought of a question that had never crept into my mind before. If you fly a multi-stage rocket and recover the sustainer and the electronics, but NOT the booster, is this is viable TRA or NAR record?I don’t… Read more»

Good job Jason! Bruce, indeed the consensus was that you’d have no worries with your boost – it is funny how an issue like that can have zero effect on a boost. Sorry I missed it all.I will be there… Read more»

Sorry I missed it! Did anyone take advantage of the high windows Joe worked so tirelessly for? I saw the big tower set up. Sorry I missed it (though I rrrrrreally enjoyed Australia) 😀

This is a great idea that I would love to do if I were there. I’d suggest you guys have a gathering and decide on a project – something that really pushes you (staging? Minimum diameter? Camera? altitude attempt?) Collectively,… Read more»

OK, not to keep coming up with solutions after the problem is solved 😯 but here is another nifty trick — when glassing, use really tight-fitting latex gloves. The trick is to put on 2 or 3 pairs. When one… Read more»

Scott, what size couplers? One nifty trick is slipping a sheet of Mylar or wax paper in there, and then inflating a balloon on the inside (forcing the glass to the inside wall of the coupler). When it is all dry,… Read more»

This is indeed make for some interesting tradeoffs. Tim T indicated there was another load coming that would have two big advantages – more NS, and a longer burn. Both of those variables would be welcome!

The K590 was what I was referring to. I meant to insert THIS link http://www.rocketryplanet.com/content/view/2557/28/Tim, the extra burn time and extra NS are going to be very cool!JW

That has got to take some serious computer and motor mount engineering. That type of steerability is not legal in HPR right? It is my understanding that we are NOT allowed to have steerable rockets. Not a big deal to me,… Read more»

John, the fins would only work if there was sufficient air in which to steer. As the rocket climbs, the amount of air gets thinner and this means less efficiency of the fins.Large rocket motors are on gimbels (spelling?) which… Read more»
