Just to follow up here, I hope most if not all of you made it out. The flying conditions while I was there, Friday afternoon through Saturday, were the best I can remember in years. Light and variable winds on the ground for the most part, temps in the mid to high 50’s. The ground was plenty wet but not muddy at all once you got in past the main road. It was fantastic.
Whitney and I made a bunch of flights, 3 of which simmed between 5K and 7K feet, all apogee deploy, and the furthest walk for retrieve was not more than a few hundred yards.
Not sure about the rest of you but after last years dry weather and subsequent lack of flying, I was really struggling to get excited again. Mini Mayhem fixed all that right up. As always, I enjoyed the people, the prarie, and the great launches. Thanks to all who made it happen.
What is the estimated altitude on that shot?
Anyone close to the site have an update on conditions? We’re going on 3 weeks now that the ground has been too wet down here for concrete or asphalt, so I’m still expecting excellent conditions up there from a fire risk standpoint. I’m actually more worried about mud at this point.
Not sure what to expect at this point. Down here in the southern part of Denver we haven’t seen dry ground in a couple of weeks. Good for flying but tough if you are trying to finish building a parking lot 😕
You can do an awful lot of great DD practice with I motors, that way it isn’t new when you do your L2. OR, what I did was build a 4″ rocket that can fly either way. I certed on a J350 with motor ejection and now I fly the same booster DD with an ebay and longer payload bay for a bigger chute.
