I’ll say this – knowing my dad, you’ll have no shortage of pictures, that’s for sure

Heck – I already know which is the best…Even though I have a new R-DAS tiny (which I can’t wait to fly, BTW), I’ll still always fly at least one RRC2X in my rockets, as they are great, simple, reliable… Read more»

Did you go with the rocket rage, like Conway has (I have a few too, though not in that size 8) )?Those are great chutes…

Agreed :)The diamond wheel goes through phenolic, glass, carbon, and kevlar (not cloth, but layups) like butter. Never seen anything else that cuts quite as cleanly and smoothly as it does.

I should be able to help with the teardown. I’ll ask my dad if he can RSO at all, but he probably will say no (still not confident enough in his ability to judge a rocket’s construction) – I’m sure… Read more»

Really, however you want. If it works, it’s good enough 🙂

Or, if you really want premade, Quickburst makes ejection canisters that have their Cosmos e-matches (highly reccomended – that’s all I use). Great products – looked at them at LDRS.

I think it would be a good idea. It would draw a lot of people, yes, but I think it is manageable. It is certainly nothing like an LDRS, but we have the site for it and it would bring… Read more»

What kind of working times do you get with the 205?I may look into that, as that is currently my biggest problem with west (when I use it for bonding).

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Seamless Composite finishes" – 6 years, 1 month ago
Interesting…I use the 206 slow hardener with west, never tried anything else…

Interesting…I’ve never used aeropoxy, but the ones I’ve used are West (starts clear, ends clear) and Pro-set (starts amber [orange hardener, crystal clear resin] and goes clear as it cures).

I use pro-set almost exclusively for my carbon work as well. I use 125/226, which gives a nice combination of strength, high tg, and easy to work with, but many other combos are availible. I post cure at 180f for… Read more»

Ahh – I see. That stuff. I don’t use it right now because I have no need to and it’s expensive. I may use it in the future though 🙂

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Seamless Composite finishes" – 6 years, 1 month ago
Aeropoxy is not a 500 degree epoxy, unless you have some stuff I am unfamiliar with. As far as I know, aeropoxy is only good to 200 degrees or so, which is still far better than west at around 120.

No kidding – I don’t have the shears, and have completely given up as to cutting it, I just make sure I order it precut in the lengths I need. That stuff is impossible…Sometime, I’ll have to get the shears…

I have used 1/2″ tubular kevlar as a piston strap before with great success (you need to widen the slot a little though). It’s availible from Giant LeapAlso, I believe Hawk Mountain has some strap kevlar. As for scraps – sorry… Read more»

I use pistons when I can as well, though usually not in the smaller diameter stuff. They work great 🙂

Even with the thin air, I can’t see that breaking more than 5k or so at absolute most. Should be a nice flight 🙂
