ModeratorMy rocket deployed then drifted in the wind .3 miles due east tailing just a bit south.
Do you have GPS track of your flight you could share? If so, that and the time of launch would help me put together the wind profile, and refine my search.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Red is the rocket’s flight path I got from the TeleMega. Blue are the GPS tracks of me wandering around looking. I had a decent pair of binoculars for the southeast loop track. The found rocket point is where I located Steve’s Patriot, which is quite coincinentally where both Keith Packard and myself estimate it to have landed.
Joe- do you think I’m still looking too far west?

ModeratorI’ve taught tip to tip to many folks in the club as well as vacuum bagging. I’m usually pretty available although I do work Saturdays. There are a couple articles here in the forums I’ve done on the process as well as pictures. By the way, Joe Hinton is the best T-to-T and vacuum bagging buddy you could have.

Actually, Ken Reilly gave me a call, and we plan to get together this weekend and he’s going to show me the ropes. Thanks for the offer. I may hit you up anyway if I have more questions.

ModeratorThe video was pretty clear. I picked up some 2oz cloth and 30 minute epoxy. I have an old fin can I’m going to do some practice on. I’m still wondering what vacuum bagging does for you. Seems like you get two things: less weight of excess epoxy and a smoother finish (less sanding). Those are two, very nice advantages. But is it worth the hassle of acquiring a vacuum rig and all the associated consumables? Seems like a pretty costly investment.

ModeratorIf you’re willing to go to Longmont, the fire department issues permits (at least for city residents) to fly model rockets in the city without any hassles. I’ve had one for the past two years. They’re free, and good for any time during the calendar year (expire Dec. 31). The only catch is that there’s no guarantee a park will be available. So if you really want to plan an event, you’d also need to secure exclusive use of the park, which I haven’t done, but didn’t sound too hard, just get a permit from the parks department. I don’t know if there’s a cost to that. I’ve just used my permit to go somewhere that’s devoid of people, and shoot off models with my kids. Having the permit allows me to prove I actually have permission if anyone gives me a hard time, which has never actually happened.
