From what I remember about the bolts, the more crudely they were drilled the better. A lathe was the least preferable tool to use to bore them out.Edward

Any idea on the finished weight yet? That way I can start calculating the parachute size(s). I’ll need at least 4 weeks lead time to make them.Edward

Rough Estimate without quotes -Case – $30Closure – $10Nozzle -$30Snap Rings/Nozzle Washer/Thrust Ring – $15$85 materials. If you want it turned to 75mm instead of true 3.00″ it would be ~$1 per inch. I much prefer not to turn down casings.Edward

54mm is the one size that is more economical to buy the casings. You will get much more interchangeability with drawn 2.125 x .095 wall tubing than you will turning a bunch of pipe for 54mm.That is one reason I… Read more»

Steve – would you consider a 4.5″ N motor? A little longer burn than 4″, but not in the range of 6″ hardware yet.I’d very much like to be part of the project, but time is shorter now than during… Read more»

I’ve got a chute that is drastically more efficient than flat chutes – by almost 2 times. Once you get a final weight let me know – I’m sure we could cut it down to just one very large chute.Edward

I remember talking to Mark L. and John B. after the Nike Project and after it was done, they said they’d settle into some standard tubing because it eliminates a lot of work and increases consistency. They used concrete form… Read more»

An L3 rocket is a lot simpler than a rocket of this scale. Once you get to this size the up part isn’t the hardest, it is the down part. Ask Kevin Trojanowski about big projects. They design them around… Read more»

I believe if the Delta II was flown again there was talk of using the club’s system to ignite the center motor. Then use on-board timers with pull wires for the outboards. That way the center motor comes up to… Read more»

This one detects liftoff by using a novel g-switch. Then when that turns off it starts a timer then lights the motor after that. I’d set it for maybe 1-2 seconds after burnout, that way it lights them fast. I’d… Read more»

Smash,Very nice looking project! I still mark the Delta II as one of the best rocketry experiences I’ve had. Life has gotten busy on me and I don’t do as much as I’d like anymore in rocketry. Need any chutes… Read more»

In Fort Collins we awoke this morning to 3″ of very light global warming blanketing the ground. Was very light but the air temperature is in the 20’s and the sun is starting to peak through.Edward
