You could try, but it would probably require a long “on” time, possibly latched. Most altimeters just give a blip of current to pop an ematch.Everyone post results from any experiments! 8)Ken

Incidentally, the reason for the attempt is supposedly the concern over hydrazine tanks. ….I read that it was estimated to be 1000 gallons of hydrazine. Talk about a nasty rainstorm below. I’d think that if they at least burst the… Read more»

I haven’t done it, but a SU composite booster should light a BP sustainer, but not the other way around.

How hard is to get Thermite? Sounds like good stuff.
Thermalite sounds about like what you’d need for that 2-stager “hard to light” project! :DKen

Tim,Sounds like Plan A might just be back on line. In my case, I don’t want the central to light the outboards, but I think we could shield the dipped ematch/Thermalite combo with basic masking tape. The ematch lines would… Read more»

For maximum entertainment value, I say keep it like it is. There is probably a point of diminishing returns. How many D motors can D motors lift? I know it’s been tried in the hundreds. Success or failure… either would… Read more»

Very nice work. Now Warren, if you’re going to that much trouble for the thrust ring, why not just machine in the male threads half of the retainer as well? Save you all the extra bolts… Maybe make the nut… Read more»

That does seem to be a helluvadeal, but I noticed that it does NOT include the Hypertek tanks. Any idea what THEY run, and I assume that the volume of the tank dictates what impulse range you’re in.How are these… Read more»

I’d certainly be interested. I have a much greater fear of losing a rocket than destroying one.A long-range “here I am” call without HAM licensing would be sweet. I’ve been avoiding the temptation to join the 1 and 2 mile… Read more»

As long as you’ve still got sufficient room for the recovery system, the longer motors should be no problem. There’s plenty of support in 14″ of motor mount tubing. Heck, longer motors help move the CG forward, too. (unless you’re… Read more»
