When I use locktite, I typically use the green because I generally do want the part to come apart eventually. Otherwise I use CA or epoxy.I’m a bigger fan of U-bolts than eye-nuts personally. As I said in an earlier… Read more»

This bird is all bolt-together except for tip to tip carbon and glass and some incidental epoxy to aluminum joints that have no structural ramifications. In that case though there are little machined grooves all around the ring designed to… Read more»

I’ve got the very same problem. Looks like construction should be done in another 3 weeks – another week for testing – then 2-3 weeks for paint and finish… of course that’s optional. I’ll fly the thing naked if it… Read more»

Given that I now have the tools to do the same, machined aluminum bulkheads and rings seem like the only way to go.Doug, saw the parts for the bird you and Art are working on – impressive.Warren

My eye nuts and threaded rod are drilled and pinned to prevent unthreading. One is fixed and uses either a roll pin or cotter pin, the other uses something much like a safety pin. I had some fears about unthreading… Read more»

I just bought four 1/2″ stainless, non-forged eye-nuts with a 2000# WLL for $10.33 each. Based on the load rating, I’d say that beats the price of the nearest McMaster equivalent by quite a bit.http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=S0321W

I’m just using stainless – I have 4 in 1/2″, 4 in 1/4″… I’ll be adding 3/8″ when I start my 4″ MD project. Bosun Supply is great and the prices beat the hell out of McMaster-Carr.Warren

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "AMW-style casing thrust ring" – 6 years ago
Due to the way the groove is ground and the way the split ring fits into that groove, I think you’d have to have a helluva lot more thrust than any AMW motor can provide to blow through that ring…. Read more»

As long as you make sure the “naughty bits” are covered up, the bikini line is trimmed tight and you keep them out of sight of small children, there shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve flown many a naked bird.W 😯
