Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "Piston Ejection" – 6 years, 1 month ago
These days I use pistons on everything I build under 4″ and over 29mm IF it is made of FWFG or Convolute FG. I have used them on phenolic birds, but don’t recommend it. I use it on all my… Read more»

What impresses me is the list of names involved and the type of projects they’re talking about – more so the intent to get waivers up to 380K’ for amateur sub-orbital flights. My only bitch is Ky Michaelson’s involved. Not… Read more»

If the tubing is FWFG, it WILL be heavier than Sonotube and an appropriate number of wraps of glass fabric. Convolute wound glass tubing will be lighter for an appropriate strength.Warren

My oven is 2″ black polyisocyanurate foam with foil on both sides. It takes down and packs flat and has 3 150 watt light bulbs and a thermostatic controller from Grainger. Works awesome.Warren

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "BP Ejection Charge" – 6 years, 1 month ago
I’ve never had one fail that I know of, but mostly I use redundant matches and redundant altimeters except on altitude shots so it’s entirely possible I’ve had matches fail. My SSS bird could well be buried 3′ deep in… Read more»

Personally, I use Daveyfire 28-B for the most part although I also have a pile of 28BR’s… best ematchs going. Oxrals are also reliable. I haven’t used Mteks very much in flight, though used them a bunch for ground testing… Read more»

You want to use an e-match, NOT an igniter. There are a variety out there if you can find them. Giant Leap sells M-Tek’s on occasion. Others to keep an eye out for are Oxral, Daveyfire, and others as well…. Read more»

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "Serial numbers?" – 6 years, 1 month ago
My AT cases are mostly laser etched, though have a number which are not. In those cases they have a label on them. I’ve never seen any other motor with a serial number. My AMW, CTI, and Loki cases are… Read more»

I have sims with the G55 that push slightly past 10K and reliably sim in the mid 9K range. The crux is that your G motor is 29mm whereas the G55 is a 24mm motor – a major change in… Read more»

I bought it. It’s a standard module, runs on 3-6 VDC and provides 250 mW of output power. It’s made in the UK for long range remote controls and supports a bit rate up to 128Kbaud. Since it has CMOS… Read more»

I have a 433mhz transmitter module that will fit in a 13mm tube. The problem then becomes the battery and keying module necessary to make the beeps. It’s not GPS, but it will provide RDF type tracking.Warren

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "Discussion about club altitude records" – 6 years, 1 month ago
An F motor bird, done 29mm for the Apogee F10, doesn’t stand a chance against a 24mm motor. The additional diameter and concomitant increase in drag overcomes the longer burn and will make it quite difficult to fly much over… Read more»
