John and I had a little one on one contest last year with J570’s and I’m here to tell you that you’re talking 15K to 17K with almost any serious attempt at a minimum diameter bird for that motor. You’re… Read more»

You KNOW our birds are all going to turn up… and I can tell you that I had two RRC2X’s that laid in the sun for 16 months and they both work fine.Warren

Much as I’m bummed that my rocket is sitting unrecovered on the prairie, I have to agree with John (who core sampled his SSS bird). The lack of tracking is an issue that lends spice to the contest. However, I… Read more»

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "Another Lost SSS Rocket" – 6 years, 1 month ago
There is currently a bug in the SSS and SSSS contest code that causes the current standings not to be displayed. I’m working on getting it fixed. I believe we have had 2 flights – one by Ed Dawson was… Read more»

Historically speaking, flights which exceed the waiver must be reported at the waiver minus 5′ so that there is nothing in writing to implicate the flyer or the club in violating an FAA waiver. Therefore, you can’t win the SSSS… Read more»

Well you kicked John’s butt with that altitude… however, the rules are the bird had to be returned by close of waiver on the day the bird is launched so you DQ’d… However, you definitely had the maximum returned altitude…. Read more»

Personally I would use G10 for the fin cores and slot them into the airframe, then run 1 or more layers of glass or carbon tip to tip across the entire fin. I’ve done some spectacular shreds on Machbusters I’ve… Read more»

I’ve flown my Hypertek without a single problem. Biggest bitch was mounting up the fill stem assembly to the rail I was using and getting it all tweaked in so in moved freely when the tie-downs melted through. Flew the… Read more»

I do like my Hypertek… in fact, I’m overdue to fly it and I still have 3 or 4 grains handy-like… I guess that means I have to repair my 4″ bird and get it ready for a few flights…. Read more»

Warren B. Musselman replied to the topic "what hybrid system to get?" – 6 years, 1 month ago
For smaller hybrids, I’m a big fan of the Hypertek system, but there are a lot of folks in the club who swear by RATT. On the larger hybrids, one of our club members has flown a lot of big… Read more»

Talk to Joe Hinton, NCR president and Tripoli Prefect – he’s a good point contact for certs as he is both NAR and Tripoli. He can readily arrange additional NAR witnesses. Drop him a line at iflyrockets@yahoo.com or just see… Read more»

Given that we have over 85% of the club either for Research launches or positively disposed towards them and only 13% against, I think the results of the vote at the annual meeting are pretty clear. NCR IS a Tripoli… Read more»

Tripoli rules preclude darts for single motor altitude events. There is a special category for darts so I would say they are out for the SSS and SSSS. That’s my judgement and I would expect if you think about it… Read more»
