The Skyrippers are very easy to prep at the pad. You hook up a line to your nitrous tank and then your ignitor. It isn’t like a hypertek where you have to seat it on a fill stem and tie… Read more»

The bigger issue for me is hassle at the pad – if your prefilled motors were easily available, I would fly many more hybrids. And the loaner hardware certainly wouldn’t hurt 🙂

Pistons are good…added one to a scratch built Aura replica. worked great, no need to worry about Nomex, wadding, or any possibility of burning up your chute.

These days I use pistons on everything I build under 4″ and over 29mm IF it is made of FWFG or Convolute FG. I have used them on phenolic birds, but don’t recommend it. I use it on all my… Read more»

For my part, I’d say that I have used pistons in 99% of my rockets. I’ve never had an issue. Basically, there is nothing that I’m worried about it “dropping down on to” in the first place. I’ve used pistons… Read more»

Hey Mike,You might want to reconsider the plastic rivet… Suppose your piston does push down, what if it jams against the rivet and fails to function by virtue of being jammed against the rivet? I’d be satisfied with making sure… Read more»

Will the piston drop down at lift off? Yes, possibly. It depends on the obvious factors, how tight the piston is, the acceleration of the rocket, etc.Do I need to put a stop..To eliminate this? No, the only thing to consider… Read more»

What impresses me is the list of names involved and the type of projects they’re talking about – more so the intent to get waivers up to 380K’ for amateur sub-orbital flights. My only bitch is Ky Michaelson’s involved. Not… Read more»

If the tubing is FWFG, it WILL be heavier than Sonotube and an appropriate number of wraps of glass fabric. Convolute wound glass tubing will be lighter for an appropriate strength.Warren

My oven is 2″ black polyisocyanurate foam with foil on both sides. It takes down and packs flat and has 3 150 watt light bulbs and a thermostatic controller from Grainger. Works awesome.Warren

A nice powerful incandescent lightbulb provides more than enough heat for the average oven…That’ll get up to 180-200f pretty easily, and you can use several if one isn’t enough.
