I will say this: the math (not just in rocksim) certainly supports the notion that the F10 is about the perfect F altitude motor. The difficulty of course lies in getting a good straight boost through all 8 seconds of… Read more»

As I said though, if you have a way to deploy with it, you can have my G25-5 for an altitude attempt (I wish I had a G25-15, but the 5 second was hard enough to find as it is)…. Read more»

The other crux is that the G55, in an optimized rocket, will be at minimum in the transonic if not the supersonic, while the G25 will not. That is also a major change in drag. Which one is the greater… Read more»

It still won’t touch a 24mm G55… which I will be flying before December 31st when it goes out of certification.WarrenFrom all my sims, it more than touches it, it well surpasses it with a well optimized rocket. I’ve never… Read more»

Most E-matches on the market today have an all fire current in the range of 500mA or less, with somewhere around 1 ohm resistance. It should fire pretty easily.By the way, Adrian, if you do design your altimeter to deploy,… Read more»

Agreed, though below about K impulse or so, the problem with a boosted dart becomes squeezing the recovery components into the tiny dart…

Chris, just how much hotter has it to be? Ignoring humidity, can you do a 3-D plot? impulse on the z axis, AGL on the x, and T on the Y. Of course insoluble in closed eqn, only curious if… Read more»

Just remember guys, air density does not fall off in a linear fashion with increasing altitude. The roughly 3000 of difference between the north site and Hartsel causes a much greater fall-off in atmospheric density than the difference between sea… Read more»

I don’t believe that is the case with commercial. The rule for research is because research motors aren’t always quite as reliable and consistent with the thrust curves, and in some cases, an exact thrust curve is not even known,… Read more»

It certainly is a lot thinner than the standard stuff. As for procrastination – I was throwing the final layer of tip to tip on my deuce the Tuesday before Oktoberfest. You aren’t the only one 🙂

I’m just going off that site I linked to (the “here” is a link if you click it). It claims 9000 newtons thrust for 1.9 seconds, with a peak velocity just a hair over mach 5 (3900mph), and then a… Read more»

Bill Heath and I are also in the design stage for a boosted dart. In our case we’re looking at a 38mm dart and a 3″ booster. In fact, we’re building a 100% scale Loki Dart. (As a matter of… Read more»

Got my first rocket at age 8 or so, but unlike most people here, for me that was the summer of 1998. For several years, I flew intermittently from the local park, and then I saw a CRASH sign at… Read more»

That was his SSSS – his SSS flew too, but he lost the nosecone and all the electronics (so no reported altitude)

Well, certainly some of it will sublimate, but I’d imagine a fair bit would soak in. I can’t imagine that it would make no difference…

I’m in for 250, that is there are takers.JS
I’m definitely not, as I can’t afford a risk like that right now. I need that money for my L2 project, which will fly next year at MHM probably.

I’m in for the SSSS – I’ll pay the fee at the rocketry dinner (I can’t make the Feb. launch). I have something interesting planned, and I shouldn’t lose it this time because a tracker is allowed.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "PML Miranda L1/L2 build" – 6 years, 1 month ago
I have to agree with that – it’s a nice motor, though it doesn’t have the massive flame, huge kick, or deafening roar that the Loki I405 has (though that’s probably a good thing for a cert flight )
