OK – as soon as I know the weight, I can recommend some good H motors to try 😀

It looks good to me What’s the weight?

Well, the Loki I405 is great in a Miranda, as is the I110 (just ask nate). Slightly tamer are the Aerotech I161 or the I218. For J motors, the J90 is my preference, but any small to mid J other… Read more»

Looks VERY nice, and even though you did use polyester resin (never used the stuff honestly, so I can’t say much about it), it should be more than strong enough for the I600 for L1 and the K1445 for L2,… Read more»

(will definately use epoxy next time). Did you not use epoxy? As for motor weight, a J350 is a bit over a pound IIRC. If you’re using rocksim though, it will take care of it. I doubt if you’ll need… Read more»

Very nice work. That thing should be bulletproof :D. How much does it weigh?

I know this – I have something fun planned for my SSSS entry this year, and it really won’t be necessarily the best design (if someone comes with an absolute maxed out carbon scream machine, I won’t be able to… Read more»

You know for all the egotism in the club…I just don’t see the egotistical thing you refer to. There are many folks who have loaned fully built rockets to others who were seeking answers. I can give you numerous examples… Read more»

Honestly, you probably have as good a chance that day as any. All of us who go there every month manage to procrastinate and all fly in November anyways, so it’s not like we pick and choose the month

That must be one helluva wind shear if it’s shredding rockets when they’re already at near mach or greater speeds 😯

I’m not saying anything you commented on is wrong. I have no experience with your tapering method, so I can’t comment on whether or not it works, and I will definitely have to try it sometime. If anything in that… Read more»

As far as resonance goes, I have to disagree with you about cf vs fg. The nice thing about CF is that it is FAR stiffer than FG, so the resonant frequency of the resulting plate goes way up. Although… Read more»

Well, that should work, but approaching mach, there are several other things to take into account, including pressure waves and such. No idea how to calculate those.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I think unglassed, unmodified phenolic should be perfectly capable of taking a 38mm J motor in a minimum diameter rocket. The pressures and forces in play here are not massive, and… Read more»

Yeah – I used 4 layers of 4.8oz CF for my fins last year, and ended up with something that was about a third the weight and half the thickness of PML 1/16″ G10, but at least as stiff if… Read more»

As John said, you have to look around for the best price on the carbon. CST has great selection, but you pay a premium for it. ACP isn’t much cheaper. Aircraft spruce is OK, as John mentioned. One thing I… Read more»

I have to say, a PML cirrus is a great choice, and should easily get into the 11k range on a J350. It won’t be a winning design, but it will give a good feeling for what an altitude bird… Read more»

I can’t get 300 – even a MD rocket with no payload will only do 230 on the I1299. I can get a solid 90-100 gees with the J1999 though, and I’ll do one better than just no broken shell:… Read more»
