If I’m free on that day, and I can do anything to help, I’m game.Looks like my SSS shot may be pushed back to oktoberfest, as the fireban continues…

Well, that is likely to be the next flight of my Black Brant X.It will go up on another 54/1706 load like it did at Mayhem (not sure which one though – possibly a long burn, or maybe redline). If… Read more»

I think it’s a perdy thing too, but it’s not a rocket :)Take your pick from the following two:Massive Ordinance Air BlastMother Of All Bombs

The orange one ain’t a rocket – it’s a MOAB

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Fiberglass Fins For Sale" – 6 years, 7 months ago
Yeah – although it’s nowhere near as stiff as the carbon honeycomb :)Either material is great for fins – I doubt I’ll use G10 ever again.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Fiberglass Fins For Sale" – 6 years, 7 months ago
I have to agree with john about the CF honeycomb. I have some 1/8″ thick, and it feels about as stiff as 1/8″ G10, but weighs less than 2oz/ft^2. Incredible stuff, and practically indestructible.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Launch Pad" – 6 years, 7 months ago
I prefer tempered (AKA spring) steel. Stiff, and the reason I like it is that if it does bend, it springs back easily (it doesn’t stay bent), so that overall, it maintains a straighter launch rod over time. If you… Read more»

Not a problem. Actually, the implication was kind of funny to me – that you would imply that the $2 worth of materials was instead a high quality PML component worth a LOT more money I will change it around… Read more»

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Dual Deployment construction" – 6 years, 7 months ago
Actually, I jerry-rigged the remove before flight pole with $2 of steel rod from lowes and $.80 worth of switches from radio shack Still, it is a decent alt bay, but all of them should have many of the same… Read more»

Very nice altimeter choice :DI use one, and it hasn’t failed me yet. Very easy, very reliable. I can’t be there on June 10, but good luck with your altimeter adventures 8)

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "NAR vs. Tripoli" – 6 years, 7 months ago
BP is easy – sulfur, charcoal, saltpeter. Some others are a little harder, but honestly, it’s amazing how easy it is to make many dangerous things. Nitroglycerine is a piece of cake, all you need is nitric and hydrochloric acids IIRC… Read more»

OK, put my foot in my mouth there…What I meant to say was that for HPR, that was the only major differences. THe LPR contests the NAR holds however are definitely unique, and a great way to learn to build… Read more»

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "NAR vs. Tripoli" – 6 years, 7 months ago
There are really not that many differences. The major one is EX – tripoli L2 and above members can do experimental rocketry, while NAR has no procedures or regulations for EX. Other than that, the differences are trivial.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Where to buy BP?" – 6 years, 7 months ago
Not a problem – we don’t really care (Actually, standard is better in many ways for our purposes). I too will have an almost full 1lb can of 4F – if you need any, just ask.
-
Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Where to buy BP?" – 6 years, 7 months ago
Only if it is FFFFg (4F). 3F works too, but 4F is preferred. IIRC, flintlocks only use this for the tiny primer charge. If you have some, bring it though – great if you drop an ejection charge, or something… Read more»

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Where to buy BP?" – 6 years, 7 months ago
There’s a store called the blunderbuss, specializes in BP stuff. I can’t recall the exact location, hopefuly someone will remember. If you can’t find any by the launch, then lots of people up there should have it.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Bubbles in Finish Epoxy" – 6 years, 7 months ago
Again, like I posted on TRF, maybe try a gelcoat finish rather than straight epoxy? It’s designed as a finish layer, and as such should not bubble.

Chris LaPanse replied to the topic "Ground Testing Deployment" – 6 years, 7 months ago
For that rocket, you should be fine. My dad uses the full charge (and no more) with his PML endeavour, and it works fine (4″ with no piston, loose fit).
