I used red iron oxide for red epoxy. The stuff works great and you have to use so little.Edward

Use lampblack. I did that when fiberglassing a body tube. I made a batch of 100 grams of epoxy and a mere 1 gram of lampblack (probably 2 tablespoons worth) did the trick. It is worse than graphite for the compressed… Read more»

I don’t know the cost or the volume, but the fin spacers for 3-4 fins in .0625 and .09375 thick for 29-98 would be awesome. Leave them long for other fin shapes. That would be nice to have re-usable ones…. Read more»

Would it be worth it to do a completely mechanically fastened rocket? I’ve always like those because parts are interchangable.Edward

I know 3 fins are the rage, but I like the patriot style 4 finned rockets also. Just that look to them :)Edward

I vote for 75mm w/54mm mount. Something light that has a long enough motor mount for some hybrids and longer solid 54’s.Edward

Jon Skuba sells aluminum machined charge holders – might want to get in touch with him.I just let the surgical tubing hang out in the rocket. Usually though it is packed tight against the bulkhead because the shockcord is crammed… Read more»

I use a router table in conjunction with the circle cutter to put shoulders on rings so that they fit into tubes. Works very nice.Edward

edward replied to the topic "mach delay or not? Shear pins on drogue." – 5 years, 11 months ago
I thought John was crazy when he suggested I use a 25 second mach delay for my L3. Turns out that it worked perfectly. As for shear pins, I generally use them on all my rockets – 2-56 is my standard…. Read more»

I set the Mach delay for rockets going better than 200 mph. I use the time the sim says until the rocket has decelerated to ~.5 Mach. This can be quite long sometimes. I do not trust Rocksim – I… Read more»

edward replied to the topic "Little Dawg DD, main chute" – 5 years, 11 months ago
Does beveling the root of the fin at a 45 degree help to bond it at all – seems like the increase in surface area would help with the epoxy. I know it helped immensely with my aluminum fins to… Read more»

semi-ellipsoidal are very efficient but I think the packing depends a lot on the material. I have a 60″ rocket rage clone that holds 15 pounds at 15 fps. I can pack it into 8″ of 2.5″ airframe very comfortably…. Read more»
