Agreed. No easy solution. I’ve had a number of my son’s LPR birds returned to the LCO table when we had given up hope of finding them, so I’m thankful to those who do so. I’ve only found a few,… Read more»

Also more commonly known as blue and red loctite. Red will require heat (as in a torch) along with some serious torque to remove. Blue and a jam nut should be plenty.-Ken

Ideally, for the cluster, use Quest Q2G2 igniters as they will light quickly and they have longer leads which are easier to twist together than the Estes ones.If I make it up to MHM, I’d be more than happy to… Read more»

Should be a very sturdy bird. Isn’t that the same one Konshak used for his L3? I remember he had a bazillion build photos posted on his website, including some nice mounting work for the DC20 in the nose. Might… Read more»

new2hpr replied to the topic "Pro 54 Closure Adapters" – 5 years, 9 months ago
In their description, the part that screws into the closure is intended only for motor retention. I would guess that the plastic closure would not hold up to the stress of a hard recovery jerk (such as those that open… Read more»

Looks like it threads into the charge well of the plastic front closure (delay/ejection holder). Haven’t used one, but thanks for the heads up. Must get!-Ken

I’ve gotten automotive paint at a little shop on Main in Longmont (can’t remember the name, though). It’s on the west side, near 1st.

I wouldn’t push too hard until the fire danger is lower. I’ve got several places I’ve flown in Longmont, but with the grass this dry, I wouldn’t dare fly. My best field was easily large enough for G motor flights… Read more»

The large fins of the Jumanji should work in your favor, pulling the CP back. Have you done any sims to determine what kind of margin you’re looking at? Just throw in a wide range of motors (light, heavy, long,… Read more»

I’d recommend setting it up so that the central N has enough oomph to get it to a safe altitude all by itself (in case of failed ignition of some/all outboards). Set the outboards to ignite upon motion (trip wire… Read more»

Agreeing and adding to Warren’s comments. Most of the altitude junkie birds have relatively small fin areas, so the booster section with motor casing will become unstable once detached from the upper section. This makes going “drogueless” perfectly acceptable. In a… Read more»

The main reason for the main in the top and the drogue in the lower airframe (booster) is the mass of the objects at the ends of the harness:With it set up how you’re planning, when the drogue pops, the… Read more»
